Construction of the South Carolina State House began in 1855 and continued until Feb 17, 1865 when Sherman burned Columbia. Construction resumed in 1865, irregularly, until completed in 1907.

Georgia State Capitol, completed in 1889. The original dome was made of terra cota and covered with tin. The dome was gilded with local gold from Dahlonega, Ga in 1958 . Dahlonega was the site of the first American Gold Rush in the 1830's.

We just spent 24 hours in "The Rocketship" at a local park about 3 miles from home. It was a great way to figure out what we still needed to do.

We enjoyed watching and learning about a Golden-Fronted Woodpecker. It looked like he enjoyed his campsite as much as we enjoyed ours.
